Celebrating women in the transport industry

For International Women’s Day this year, we highlighted some of the incredibly talented women in our industry.

Only 2.6% (source) of working women in New Zealand work in the transport sector. However, the women we spoke to are thriving in the industry, and are all helping to #breakthebias, acting as role models for other women who might want to work in the industry.

Thank you to Ayna, Hayley, Naomi, Sharron, Mikayla and Iaeli for sharing your stories with us this week for International Women’s Day.

With the EROAD Satellite Communications solution, you can configure the airtime contract to match your fleet’s operational requirements. Set daily communication limits with the preferred duration or interval between location updates, as well as messages on priority events.

Our GPS-enabled Ehubo telematics device is always recording detailed trip data when turned on, even when out of cellular coverage. Trip data is uploaded automatically to MyEROAD when back in cellular coverage.

With EROAD Satellite Communications, when a vehicle leaves cellular coverage, satellite coverage kicks in immediately, sending regular, low-data comms via satellite, which is fed to the Cloud, and received by MyEROAD in intervals of 10, 20 or 60 minutes (dependent on your plan).

“Ever since I was 16yrs old, I have always loved trucks. In the weekends, I would spend the weekends cleaning trucks at my brother’s workplace, watch them back trucks into their yard and if I’m lucky I get to tag along and ask lots of questions.  Other part of the job is the good old truck hand pump. I’m not going to lie, even I sometimes sit on the side of the road and wait for a truck to go pass just so I can get them to honk their horn at me. whenever I see young kids pump their arms on the side of the road, it makes my day when I can honk my horn and put a smile on their face.

What I love best about this job is getting to see New Zealand’s beautiful landscape while driving different cargoes. Working for Alexander’s have given me the opportunity to travel and learn. They have the  best team and trainers with excellent knowledge on what they teach.

A big shout-out to my team in logistics for setting a good example as a truck operator who takes pride in their work and gears.”

“I am proud to be part of a family owned and operated trucking business.  Who wouldn’t love trucks, everything that we use spends time on the back of a truck.”

Sharron Robinson – Driver, Booths Transport, Tauranga

“Being part of the Tauranga Booths Team I am on a set run which sees me arrive in Auckland early hours of the morning, unloading and reloading with deliveries being made back along the way. I don’t know if I love the sound of the alarm at 1:30am but once on the road, seeing the night sky, the amazing moon and stars then getting to see the sunrise, that’s what I love. The areas I cover may look the same but things change every day, just like the seasons – a sight I never get sick of seeing. Rolling along in a KW with good sounds and sights is a happy place to be”

Hayley, CEO of Alexander Group
