Welcome to the EROAD 4G upgrade program

3G Network Switch-Off

3G Devices Need Upgrading Now

GET STARTED

One NZ is turning off the 3G network by 31 December 2025.

Important notice

Everything that relies on a cellular connection – from mobile phones to telematics – must upgrade to 4G or 5G to avoid losing service.

For those managing vehicle and driver safety and compliance via EROAD for Road User Charges and Logbook, your compliance is at risk if your devices lose connectivity.

Time is running out to keep your vehicles connected, and compliant.

There’s no ‘flick of the switch’ – 3G service to degrade BEFORE 31 December

3G network assets are being degraded. Some may be turned off sooner, meaning 3G ‘black spots’ could grow before the 31 December deadline. Don’t leave your fleet out of range.

Choose a convenient time to upgrade

Once you’ve confirmed your upgrade with EROAD, you can work with an installer to find a convenient time. Waiting until the last minute when installers are fully booked with last-minute demand could lead to frustrating wait times and low availability.

FAQs

How do you start the switching process?

Submit a form, email sales.operations@eroad.com or call EROAD’s 4G Sunrise team on 0800 437 623.

Our team will confirm the devices to be upgraded and any costs or contract amendments, if applicable.

Once you confirm the changes required, our team will send your details to your local installer. Then you liaise with the installer to find a convenient time.

Certain models can be replaced with a head-unit swap. Your workshop can become certified to complete these. Ask about self-installation options when you contact us.

What’s involved in replacing 3G devices?

3G devices need to be physically replaced.

If you have certain models, these can be replaced with a simple head-unit swap (no under-dash wiring required) which can be done in as little as 30 mins. Our team can advise you on what’s involved based on your specific devices.

What happens if you wait to make the switch?

Given thousands of businesses and consumers across New Zealand will need to migrate to 4G- and 5G-enabled devices—across all sectors—demand will surge closer to the December 2025 cut-off.

To keep the benefits of your connected devices and telematics systems, start the migration process as early as possible.
