EROAD in Action
Businesses from all across New Zealand with fleets of all shapes and sizes harness the power of our platform every day. We capture their thoughts and celebrate their success through our RUC Stars program.
“The LongChill Fleet travels nationwide and we proudly use New Zealand developed technology, to keep our units working on-time safely to manage our customer’s orders. To do this our fleet utilises smart IT systems, and this includes the EROAD solution.
With EROAD I am able to view the fleet anywhere in New Zealand at any time, and keep on top of what’s happening. It provides me with all the up-to-date information I need to run a compliant, efficient and profitable fleet.”
Bridgestone first installed EROAD devices in 2013, to take advantage of administration and cost savings that an eRUC device provides.
In the subsequent years, EROAD has become much more than that, expanding our ability to manage our own fleet, but also enhancing Bridgestone’s capacity to better service our shared customer base. The technology has advanced to include driver behaviour metrics which helps to develop staff driving habits, in turn improving our safety record for our staff and the wider public.
“For Bridgestone’s customers, it means more accurate data capturing, with EROAD feeding accurate Hubo data to Bridgestone’s B|mobile electronic job card at time of service. Through EROAD’s Gen II device, we are able to notify wheel re-torque reminders direct to the driver in real time, preventing potential wheel off incidents. EROAD has become an important partner to Bridgestone, assisting us in delivering superior service and using data to influence business decisions for us and our customers.”
“Departments used to assign roughly $6K per month to vehicle cost allocation. Now it’s around $2500 per month. EROAD has also had a huge impact on fuel costs. In the first month of using EROAD we received 7000 over-speed alerts. We now see fewer than 150 a week, and only four or five of these are for sustained periods of time. As a result, I’ve seen my fuel cost drop by up to $3,000 per month, with increased utilisation and kilometres travelled by the fleet.”
“EROAD has so far brought down our over speed events from approximately 25,000 a month to about 1200. It’s reduced our overall fuel bill by approximately 20% and accident incident rates by 20%.”
“Leaderboard gives us all the names of the drivers and how they perform through the week. I keep a record of it so I can see how I perform and how other drivers perform – because I’m involved with their health and safety.
EROAD has improved my driving. I can monitor myself and try and improve my driving. Our despatch boss doesn’t make us speed. It’s us that do it. Sometimes having these records makes us come back to reality, to slow down. It’s all about driving safely and getting home safely. That’s why you should have EROAD.”
Hear it in his own words.
“Not everyone is taught how to drive correctly, how to manage their day and so on. It might just be a simple gear change in the wrong rev range and the driver is getting into the red zone instead of sitting in the economical zone.
We use EROAD as a safety tool but data’s power. The more data you have, the better you can run, the more efficient you can become, and the more efficient we become, the more we can give to the staff.”
“It’s always good to have the confidence to know that I can look at my team’s calendars, know what their appointments are and know that yes, they’re at the address they should be, and yes, they’ve left the address so I know they’re safe.”
“We work for the community and we have to give them the best value for their dollar. Staff used to book vehicles out for a whole day instead of just the time they needed them. Now we’re using EROAD U Book-It, once a vehicle is returned to the council carpark, it checks itself in and is made available in the pool. Each booking gets coded to a cost centre, which helps us charge back kilometres travelled to the right department.”
“We use the Activity screen so that if anyone rings up we know exactly where the vehicle is.
We’ll use that a lot when we get into cruise boat season. We can look at the map and know exactly where the bus is and give that information to the ships. It’s technology that’s working for us.”
“The Health & Safety at Work Act is the biggest change we’ve seen in the industry for a very long time. It’s exciting but also a challenge, and getting a bit of diversity into the industry will really help. We need to employ more women. They’re better at paperwork, careful with their vehicles, and they’re great at getting involved and making things happen. It’s going to be beneficial for everyone in meeting the new requirements.
EROAD is the best thing since sliced bread. It’s fantastic being able to see where the guys are and what they’re doing.”
“We’ve seen a 100% reduction in speed events since installing EROAD – and zero notifiable incidents. We have daily toolbox meetings within each territory where we talk about safety and my message is always, “Keep an eye on EROAD. Make sure you’re driving safely.”
We installed the EROAD system to help us manage health and safety outcomes and improve fleet utilisation and it’s already paid for itself with improvements in efficiency generated by the daily trip information and fuel savings. Having a system in place to improve safety both for drivers and the public is good for all of us.”
“We’ve been with EROAD since the early days and find with the ease of off-road recovery the system pays for itself – it’s so much easier, manageable and more cost efficient to buy it this way.
We have 80 trucks plus trailers, covering the country, and EROAD helps us meet our obligation to keep in spec as far as speed discipline is concerned. From an integrity point of view, we can put up our hand and say our fleet is not out of spec.
It’s good business practice and gives the communities we work in confidence that we are managing with a stable system.”
“We’ve found the EROAD system magic for our business. It’s easy to use and a really good business tool. It lets me see how trip times and load/unload times compare with what I’ve quoted and I can use that information to ensure my pricing’s accurate. If there are delays during unloads, I can show the impact on my business.
Off-road claims used to take four to five hours. Now it takes 10 minutes – that means more time to spend sitting in the pool!”
“We have depots in Palmerston North, Wellington, Whangarei and Hastings. I’m based in Auckland, but I don’t have to be at the branch; I can see Leaderboard reports at any time of day, any day of the year, on my phone. It’s a great innovation. It makes my job much easier, being able to keep on top of what’s happening in the fleet remotely.
It’s providing me with all the information I need for compliance, health and safety and training purposes. We’re planning on using Leaderboard rankings as the basis for our Driver of the Year Awards.”
“The EROAD system’s rock solid. It’s provided our business with more accurate information and we know we can rely on it. We’re now getting a whole raft of information we never had before, improving the management of our fleet and ultimately the service to our customers.
We’ve integrated the solution we developed for despatch and communications, including proof of delivery, sign-on glass and routing, with the EROAD system. EROAD’s support has helped us in delivering a successful outcome to the business. We’re now able to replace ageing, in some cases paper-based systems, with a single EROAD connection plus tablets in each truck.”
“We installed Drive Buddy in 70 of our trucks because we wanted to be more proactive with developing better driver behaviour. It’s really easy for our drivers because it sits in the cab and acts as a guide for them when they’re on the road. They don’t have to do anything; when they turn the truck on, Drive Buddy is on and giving them feedback.
They’re definitely more vigilant about their speeds now and it’s becoming a bit of an obsession with some of them. They’re competing with each other to be the best, so we’re now looking at an incentive programme.
When we first started getting the over speed reports, we were surprised by the number of speeding events. At first, our focus was on over speed events of 15km and up. We wanted to get rid of the red alerts, then eliminate the amber, and it’s working: we’ve seen a huge, huge decrease in speeding events since we installed Drive Buddy.”
“EROAD fleet tracking is fantastic but where we’re increasingly seeing benefits is in reporting. It’s even more important than real-time information because it’s giving us a history of everything from mileage, event logs and RUC, to fuel efficiency and maintenance. With servicing, for example, it’s starting to build a picture that helps us make decisions about vehicle replacement, based on factors like fuel economy and repair costs.
It’s creating more and more information that’s really beneficial to our fleet.”
“We’ve got two businesses and three workshops and we can see what’s happening across all of them, on one screen, thanks to EROAD. It makes servicing that many vehicles much simpler and using an automated system rather than manual we know we’re on track, and there’s no risk of human error.
It’s also simplified RUC. We no longer run out or get tickets. It’s reduced admin time, is one less thing for our drivers to worry about and the total amount of cash outlay is drastically lower, with each vehicle sitting on 2000km rather than 5000-10,000.”
“We’re seeing major time and cost savings through automating our RUC purchasing. It means our admin staff are no longer disrupted from their job or having to waste time standing in line at the Post Shop. It’s less stressful for our drivers because they don’t have to worry that their licences will be affected if they’re stopped when their RUC has expired. And there’s no risk to the company’s NZTA rating because we’re always compliant.”
“With the health and safety reforms coming in 2015, Waitomo is now using EROAD’s Electronic Logbook, Driver Vehicle Inspection Checklist and Service module to help us make sure everything is ship shape. It’s part of our company’s philosophy of going paperless. Our drivers are no longer running around buying paper RUC licences or filling in paper logbooks. The EROAD system means information is now at everyone’s fingertips. And it’s the easiest to use system I’ve seen.”
“We’re delivering freight all over the country with specialised, Auckland-wide, same-day pickup and delivery. The EROAD system gives us total visibility, so we know where our vehicles are at any time.
Running truck and trailer-size taxis means job orders can change by the hour and dispatch is potentially a nightmare but EROAD makes it all easy. We switched from invoice books and paper-based systems to running the whole business in the cloud and the level of efficiency we’ve got now means real cost savings. We’ve now integrated EROAD, iCOS LIVE and Xero to help with freight management and billing and it’s a really nice package.”
“The dry summer has kept us really busy and the EROAD system has ensured we’re charging out accurate kilometres to our customers. It also means we don’t have to go online after 13-hour days to buy licences then wait for a week to get the labels. We get a warning when a licence is about to expire, and we don’t have to do anything if we’ve selected AutoRUC: the licences click over and we’re compliant.”
“I first started using the EROAD system for compliance. I’ve watched it develop to where it is now and really do use every feature – fuel reporting, driver behaviour, servicing, offroads and all fleet reporting. It’s easy to use and the information it gives us is fantastic. We’re relying on it more and more now to meet health and safety obligations.”
“Thanks to EROAD we know where our truck is and what it’s doing. It’s the same with our utes. If there’s any dispute about a job, we’ve got proof of where they’ve been and how many loads they’ve done. It’s all there in black and white. No one can bullshit you because you’ve got it all there.”
Luke and Tash Strickland
“We have reduced vehicle down time with EROAD’s GPS tracking. Many of the new subdivisions in Christchurch don’t have street names, only lot numbers. When we need to send assistance to one of our guys, we quickly jump onto Depot and can see exactly where they are.”
“We’ve got Ehubos in 17 trucks and we’re carrying overweight loads so we’re buying additional licences all the time. Being able to buy licences over the web, using a mobile phone, is really good for us when we’re having to do it several times a day per truck. It doesn’t matter where we are or what time of day it is, we can see where our vehicles are and be sure they’re all compliant.”
“The less time a driver has to spend on the phone, the safer his driving and the more he can get done. We’ve thoroughly tested EROAD’s free, tablet-based EZmessage system and it’s been great for letting a driver know where and when his next job is and keeping a full record of all instructions and acknowledgements. It’s cost-effective and easy to use and we’re now looking forward to rolling EZmessage out across our whole fleet.”
“We’ve been an EROAD customer since 2009 – we had to wait for the law change to start using it. We find it exceptionally good being able to track our vehicles. If a customer is looking for one of our trucks, we know where it is. Our depot is a long way from the road so we make off-road claims whenever we like – that’s a big advantage for us! And if one of our trucks is in the workshop, the EROAD system can see that it’s off the road, and alerts us.”
“We have 19 cranes ranging up to 400 tonnes. All our cranes are overweight and require additional RUC licences, so being able to buy them online saves a lot of mucking around. Our equipment is spread over our various branches and it’s really helpful for branch managers being able to log into Depot to see where their equipment is. It’s also handy when we hire out our cranes and can keep track of how long our customers are using them for.”
“We’re a rural-based operation so many of our drivers are in remote locations most days. With the EROAD system we can now keep track of them wherever they are and know they’re safe.”
“It’s human nature not to check whether you’re up to date with RUC, and that includes me! That’s why AutoRUC is a no brainer for us. We have 10 vehicles with AutoRUC set at 2000km each. It’s by far the easiest option for us. It means our admin lady doesn’t need to worry about it and we can avoid trips to the Post Office to buy licences.”
“AutoRUC is the best thing ever invented for a small business like mine. Most of the time it’s just me running the business, so time is precious and AutoRUC is a good time saver. The over-speed, idle and fuel consumption reports help with making savings and driver education as it’s all there in black and white.”
“We have a number of schools in Hokitika and some of the young kids tend to walk out on the road. EROAD’s Virtual Speed Camera encourages drivers to be more vigilant around these areas. For the first few days that we used it, I was receiving speed alerts for 52-53kms. That’s now dropped to 50kms. So the drivers are certainly slowing down and keeping to the speed limit.”
“We’re always looking to make savings where we can. We can assign shared vehicle costs to the different departments, and eliminate running sheets. EROAD has definitely helped us improve the utilisation of our vehicles.”
“We started using EROAD as we needed a more modern management tool. We use it for the day-to- day management of our fleet, keeping an eye on over-speeds, idling, and to purchase our RUC. With EROAD’s system, you’re dealing with facts, as opposed to emotion. It’s an excellent tool.”
“EROAD’s Over Speed Report is invaluable to me as the health and safety manager. It allows me to monitor our drivers’ speeds at all times. I use the daily activity and fuel exception reports to ensure nothing looks out of the ordinary. EROAD is the total package though – it’s awesome!”
“The ability to buy the extra weight as you need it is fantastic. Fully loaded, our trucks can weigh up to 33 tonne but it varies job to job. Once the guys have placed the container on the truck, they give us a call. We can purchase the additional RUC through EROAD’s Depot then and there.”
“Driver behaviour’s a big issue for us. Since we installed Ehubos and Driver ID units in March, we’ve been able to get detailed reports on things like speed and fuel use in a matter of seconds, so we can identify where the problems lie and focus on driver training.
The units are more cost effective than a GPS, and we’re also seeing big savings on RUC. We’re claiming 2000-3000km a month in offroad travel now and buying RUC in 3000km lots rather than 10,000km, so we can spread the cost more evenly. And AutoRUC means we don’t have to supply labels to all our trucks every two weeks, and constantly check that they’re up to date.”
“We’re hauling concrete, steel bridge beams, cranes and machinery for construction projects all around the country, so we have to buy lots of additional mileage for overweight loads. When a truck gets to a site I can work out how many kilometres it needs and buy it straight away. As soon as the truck’s on the road, the additional licence displays on the screen. It’s much easier, we don’t have to wait and we’re always legal.”
“The main reason we switched to EROAD was to buy RUC and its AutoRUC has really helped with compliance and cash flow. We weren’t expecting all the other benefits though, and the more we use the system, the more we get out of it. We rely on the Service Module now to increase the frequency of our services and the fleet summary reports are increasingly invaluable as our fleet expands.”
Brothers Steve and Kelly McCafferty, director and manager at McCafferty Metal Cartage, made the decision to implement EROAD in the McCafferty fleet in September 2011. Kelly says:
“Things have been different since then – in a good way! We’re based in Gisborne but our guys are often located 30 minutes out of town in the forest – as most of our work is for a local forestry firm.
With EROAD’s real-time tracking I can see where the guys are located and whether it’s a good time to call to make arrangements for their next job. The convenience of buying RUC and managing off-road claims, WOF, COF and rego using AutoRUC and the online service module has saved a great deal of time – and money! Needless to say, since then we have seen significant savings from operational efficiencies.”
Steve and Kelly McCafferty
“EROAD’s reporting has been very beneficial for us. It’s a good behavioural feedback tool, helping our drivers to be even better operators. It’s helped with speed awareness especially around reduced speed zones and it’s cut idling time – with the aim of not only reducing unnecessary fuel burning but also engine wear and tear.
Off-road RUC claims are much simpler and more accurate than the manual process, as is buying RUC using the Auto RUC function. We’re also finding geofences valuable for managing truck time spent at different sites – assisting with planning and reducing potential wasted time on site due to factors like peak hour congestion.
It’s not just one thing, though. The EROAD system is a complete package for us.”
“Being able to track the location of our fleet and auto-purchase our RUC while we’re out and about has been great. However, the biggest gain and ultimate goal for us is the data we are capturing. Already, we have significantly reduced our truck idle times and speeding events and we are just scratching the surface. A lot of the data we capture will be used in our pending Driver Recognition Program.”
“Through EROAD we now have the resource and ability to visually report on and track our four fleet types from Kaitaia to Bluff. The visual picture we receive from the EROAD reporting services enables us to effectively manage our fleet and fuel consumption. We also have greater ability to address and reduce over-speed incidents and to reduce fleet idle time. And it helps improve our service offering to our valued customers.”
“As an owner driver I need to save on costs. Since I have had EROAD in my truck I have found that it is amazing how much off-road RUC I have never claimed for. It is so easy to use and cost effective – a very useful tool for my business.”
“EROAD helps me keep on top of RUC. I used to have to phone up to buy RUC, then I’d have to go to the post office to get a reprint – and pay for it! Seven times out of ten when you have a wheel change, the hubodometer gets knocked out. The cost of replacing it is one thing. Then you have to get a refund from NZTA. Then go and buy a new one. That’s all downtime for me and my vehicles. I’m a very busy person. EROAD’s saved me time and money. It’s made my business more cost effective and more manageable.”
Southern Milk Transport is responsible for the transportation of Open Country Dairy Limited milk. Brett Hamilton, Transport Operations Manager, decided to implement EROAD in August last year.
“Before we had EROAD installed it was difficult to know where our drivers were and how efficient our fleet actually was. Since then, nothing is hidden – we know where the team is and how they are getting on with transporting our milk produce. From EROAD’s ability to integrate with other software, to managing RUC online and fuel efficiency reporting, EROAD’s system provides invaluable information.”
“With our fleet of over 80 truck and trailer units, automatic off-road claims are a huge benefit to us. We use activity monitoring on a day-to-day basis to trace our deliveries and AutoRUC to keep our vehicles compliant without demanding large cash flows. The service module makes it easy to plan COFs, WOFs and maintenance required on our vehicles.
I’m always recommending EROAD to others because of its reliability, ease of use and the value it provides.”
“Off-road claims are a big deal when you’re in forestry and EROAD has made the whole process simpler. We use AutoRUC so we know our trucks are compliant when they’re away from the base – it’s one of those things that you set and forget. We don’t have to send out RUC labels to drivers who live out of town and we know exactly when their trucks are due for a service.”
“Getting it wrong is not an option. Asset management, fuel use, the Operator Rating System and compliance oversight are all things that can make or break a transport business. We have deployed EROAD throughout our fleet to give us the leading edge when addressing these issues.”
“From a fleet management point of view, EROAD has been implemented in our vehicles specifically to claim off-road kms for the trucks and trailers. Because their system is so easy to use it saves time and money from both operational and administrative perspectives. With the EROAD package comes a whole host of other useful tools such as fuel consumption, idle and over speed reports. EROAD is also working closely with us to create tools specific to our industry. We love the benefits!”
“Where do I start?! The off-road refund report makes it easy for us to claim RUC we don’t need to pay for. AutoRUC purchasing makes one less thing to think about as we don’t have to go to the post office to buy our licences. The Ehubo means we can keep operating with no more mechanical hubodometer problems. All the EROAD features save us time and money so it quickly pays for itself. It’s a no brainer really.”
“Well, to put it simply the EROAD system simplifies the off-road claiming process which we use a lot for our specialised vineyard fertiliser spreading truck (pictured above). It also has the tracking capability which can be viewed from the Depot which is awesome. The Ehubo is a practical piece of equipment that we had been trying to find and the EROAD system stood out. Overall the EROAD system is a great simple tool that we use every day!”
“With our business we are constantly on and off the road. The auto off-road reports makes my life easy. With a simple procedure, using the EROAD depot system, we have an off road report! And can claim back amounts of RUC we spent off-road which prevents us from over paying. The EROAD system saves us time and money, making our life easy.”
Bryce and Sue Hooton are beekeepers and owner operators of Golden Flow Apiaries Limited. They have 1700 hives with approximately 50,000 bees in each – that’s a lot of livestock! What is unique about this couple is that Bryce is totally blind.
Bryce and Sue have adopted the EROAD system to help manage the beekeeping operations which stretch from their base in the Matamata all the way to the East Cape. The benefits for Bryce and his wife Sue are:
- They love the fact that they know where their staff are if they haven’t heard from them when expected.
- If Bryce’s driver is lost he can call up Sue and receive directions to get back on track using the EROAD tracking system.
- They can buy RUC in smaller quantities, electronically and automatically, with no need to make special trips into town and they never run out!
- Easy off-road claims using the EROAD reporting system.
- The electronic hubo inside the truck makes updating the logbook so easy.
- Managing the servicing of their vehicles with the EROAD service module is a lot more efficient.
Bryce and Sue Hooton
“We had EROAD in the old truck for two years and just had to have it in the new one. From claiming off-road kms, the convenience of 24×7 electronic RUC purchasing, to trip data for customers – the accuracy and ease of EROAD means we’d highly recommend it.”
John and Sandy Harper
“What a difference the EROAD system makes! Our family has been involved in general carrying for over 100 years. The time EROAD saves through managing the fleet, purchasing RUC and by using the business tools to reduce costs really does make a difference to us. As a long-standing member of the RTA we are very pleased to endorse the EROAD/RTA relationship and the benefits this will bring to the members.”
“The convenience of AutoRUC and the ability to set up the amount of kms we want to buy for each unit means we don’t have money tied up in RUC that we haven’t used – this is what we love about the EROAD system!
We do our off-road claim once a month which is a simple procedure and there is no added cost with EROAD. Some of our log trucks are receiving a return of up to 5% per month on off-road claims – oh, and did I mention there is no added cost to claim. The whole EROAD system is user-friendly with no more manual hubodometer failures to deal with!”
“The ability of EROAD’s service to buy RUC with no intervention and produce off-road distance claims automatically means that fitting EROAD Electronic Distance Recorder’s into our trucks and trailers is a no-brainer. The tracking ability lets us know where our trucks are so we can move our product more cost effectively.
EROAD’s service has become even more valuable with the ability to manage our servicing and maintenance. The automatic notifications helps us to easily maintain our levels of compliance and run our business more efficiently. We wouldn’t be without it!”
“My Ehubo has put on a good show! My business doesn’t stop – neither does the Ehubo. We travel over 6,000km a week and the Ehubo has reliably ticked over 500,000km of RUC!
EROAD helps me manage my business better, with the ability to match licence weights to the loads I am carrying – if I am cubed out with light product, why should I have to pay for maximum weight? If I am carrying heavy product, I will pay my licences accordingly and with the EROAD units installed, I know that the current licence is always on display as required. I wouldn’t be seen without it!”
“People see EROAD as the RUC and compliance experts, but thats only half their story! Between the fuel and service cost reduction in engine idling and overspeed events alone, the system has paid for itself threefold every month. The service management system is brilliant – I have full visibility on maintenance costs and service scheduling, and my records are automatically archived.”
“EROAD has met all our expectations and has exceeded others. With our line of work a large portion is off-road trucking and after running with EROAD it has surprised us how much we really do, EROAD has made this exact and very easy to claim back. We don’t always have the same drivers day-to-day in the same trucks, so AutoRUC has made keeping up with the RUC kms an absolute breeze. Especially with the new RUC Act coming into force, I simply wouldn’t have it any other way.”
“I am a single operator who needs to spend time getting the most value out of my truck. With EROAD installed, my administration time is markedly reduced by having Eruc purchased electronically and automatically, automated off-road claims and the hugely simplified yet complete service management system. I take comfort in knowing that my truck remains compliant at all times, thanks to the EROAD system.”
“We operate in some pretty tough conditions, so we demand absolutely dependable suppliers. EROAD has delivered a super-robust, easy-to-use, and very reliable asset and compliance management system that stands up to all our expectations.”
Smiley and Barbara Millard
“EROAD is the most important business tool we have, it gives us the ability to better manage all our compliance and loads. We collect off road mileage on our tip trucks that would otherwise be too hard to manage, and it does it automatically. It allows us to keep an eye on the transport of high value horses in the other side of our business. Add to this the safety aspect through driver assessment and vehicle monitoring and we gain huge benefits – all from one system.”
“Off highway kms are a large part of any logging company and requiring drivers to accurately record them and keep records is difficult. EROAD does this for us automatically, and withstands any audit that may occur. You have to have confidence that the system you are using is accurate and reliable, or else you might get caught out. Being a ‘hands on’ driver myself I can keep up with the RUC’s any free moment I get.”
Blair is a modern linehaul truck driver. He goes where the work takes him, only occasionally returning to his home in Waipawa. In the cab, he carries his laptop and everything else he needs for a life on the road. Last year Blair invested in EROAD and wished he had done it years before. As Blair says:
“I do a lot of linehauls between the Islands and I never know what I will be carrying from one day to the next so it is hugely convenient to be able to buy RUC whilst on the go. I now buy RUC as I need it – 1000 kms at a time – exactly for the load I am carrying. The savings are huge and convenience of being able to buy anywhere, at any time of the day or night, just fantastic. The support and training I received from the installer (Pete @ Johnson Electrical) and EROAD made it really easy to use.”
Riverlea Contractors Ltd is an agricultural contracting business in South Taranaki providing a wide range of services including cultivation, harvesting and trucking services. (Hay and Straw Cartage, Palm Kernel Cartage, Maize and Grass Cartage)
“EROAD has simplified our RUC licensing process and enabled us to easily claim off-road kms. I don’t know what else to say. It’s great.”
“I needed a reliable hubo and AutoRUC means I don’t have to worry about forgetting to buy my RUC. It’s a set and forget system. What’s my password to the Depot system again?”
“Using EROAD means we have more time to go fishing. We love it.”
“As an owner operator/driver in Auckland city the benefits of EROAD are significant – the AutoRUC function allows me to “Set and Forget” RUC. I like knowing that all of my off-road Km’s are being automatically calculated and are recoverable at the touch of a button. Even in a city environment it’s simple in the extreme. GPS functionality is being used to full effect better utilising my fleet. Thanks EROAD… no more manual RUC and Hubo management!”
“We had EROAD installed into one of our trucks to see if we could save our company money. The savings were mind boggling and now we are installing EROAD into the rest of our fleet!”
“I am very impressed with the ease of visibility and the way I can see everything in one place. The workshop and I both get automatically alerted when a service is coming due based on the Ehubo giving us the genuine kilometres. There is a huge saving in time once the service is completed because a lot of the data is automatically updated.”
“Since installing EROAD 2 months ago I have been surprised by the significant returns received from off-road RUCOR claims. Until now it had been impossible for me to accurately calculate and administer RUCOR claims. The entire EROAD RUCOR claim process is simple in the extreme. The AutoRUC facility provides me a “set and forget” approach to RUC and purchasing supplementary licences, real time, in vehicle via my iPad ensures total compliance and no downtime associated with manual licencing. This is key for my business which is high velocity and asset utilisation critical.
With iCOSLiVE Online transport management system and ICOS LIVE GO to mobile I have complete control of my business from my vehicle using my iPad . With the integration of iCOS LIVE and EROAD It allows me to run live yield and net retention calculations providing accurate bottom line results per job while I am on the road. ”
“The nature of our business means we are frequently off-road – often many times a day. We needed a GPS system that reliably captured our off-road and didn’t take hours of admin time to complete claims. EROAD has been excellent. It gives us a precise vehicle tracking system plus a really easy off-road claim process. Plus, the added bonus is that we now buy all the RUC for our other seasonal vehicles via EROAD’s website. Saves us heaps of time and is much easier to administer.”
“There is only one way I know to reliably pay the right amount of RUC every time and no more. Combine this with great fleet tracking, accurate service management and getting rid of mechanical hubodometers and I am on the winning side with EROAD.”
“I love my EROAD. With a full load of logs, my off-road claims are worth a huge amount to my business and I am not prepared to risk such a valuable and legitimate cost recovery – I need and value the certainty that only EROAD can provide. EROAD has the only NZTA-approved electronic distance recorder and with an automated claim process and AutoRUC I know that I always have the RUC that I need. I get 100% certainty and total peace-of-mind – why would I do it any other way?”
“We love the efficiency of the EROAD system – it saves time, the invoices are emailed, there is no need to physically check hubos to see when RUC needs to be bought, as AutoRUC streamlines the RUC purchasing process and the supplementarys for the transporter trucks are quick and painless.
“The off-road claims, particularly for our fuel trucks operating on forest roads, are precise, verifiable and only take 5 seconds to complete. The question is, with our busy fleet, how did we manage without it?”
Jim and Karen’s company builds roads in the forest as well as doing roading and drainage work on farms.
“It saves drivers having to check Road User Charges and pre-plan the purchase… and it saves me rushed trips to the Post Office at 4:55pm to buy more when they get it wrong… fabulous!”
“EROAD saves us having to purchase large amounts of Road User Charges at one time. The system is pre-programmed to automatically purchase Road User Charges every 1000km. It allows for simple and effective off-road claims – it’s so easy. For our heavy haulage operation, it allows us to buy supplementary kms on site according to the size of machine we are carrying, rather than running around on maximum weight stickers all the time. The GPS tracking system allows instant location of the nearest truck so we can divert it to carry a load as required. The system also monitors trucks for safety purposes while in our forests.” (Jim Brookes)
“It’s showing good returns, it’s easy to use and the 24 hour compliance is fantastic.”
“This RUC Star has the important job of delivering Santa’s Reindeer on time and to the right place ready for Christmas Eve… We have a fleet of 9 trucks on EROAD and find it a marvellous cost-saving system. Being able to buy our road users 24/7 is a great advantage. The ability to be able to track each truck is a helpful tool to advise clients as to the vehicles ETA. We have even given a login to Father Christmas so he can see when his delivery will arrive without having to contact us.”
“We trialled other systems, but the EROAD system was the most accurate for off-highway recording and by far the premium GPS tracking system in the market. We have added value through RUC purchasing and rebates. Given our fleet size and truck locations, we can now concentrate on other parts of the business. The implementation was seamless and we’re rapt with this ingenious Kiwi innovation.
“The Eruc management system is proving to be a god-send for the fleet and the boys love it! Our business moves fresh fish 24/7. Before EROAD we would sometimes get caught out in the middle of the night because it was impossible to get the right physical RUC licence to a truck on a wharf in the middle of nowhere. Like 99% of truckies, we do our best to keep our RUC up-to-date for each load, but there were times when it was just impossible to do with the old paper system.”
“EROAD means we are saving time and money in administration costs by using Auto RUC and is great for our off road work with accurate and simple reporting. Great reporting has also meant we have saved on fuel consumption by cutting out over speeding and unnecessary idling. EROAD has been a valuable asset to our business.”
“EROAD is really easy to operate. Now I don’t have to worry about the bloody RUC any more.”
Peter Trotter has been operating as a spreading and agricultural contractor since the 1950s.
“EROAD – it’s that simple…I don’t even own a computer.”
“We still remember the days before mechanical hubodometers, and we are darned glad to go back to them!”
Phillips and Sons has worked the roads of the lower South Island for the best part of a century, one of the longest standing family owned transport companies in New Zealand. Third generation Murray Phillips reckons that the oldest traditions definitely work well with the newest technology.
“Dad’s in his 70’s and still perfectly happy to drive the bulkies during the season, but now there is no more time wasting for him going down to the Post Office for RUC stickers. With a simplified Eruc process, easy off road reports, and no mechanical hubodometers, this EROAD system should have been around years ago.”
“I have a combination of logging and bulk trucks and I put EROAD into a couple of trucks last year to try it out. It proved to be worth its weight in gold – so much so I have just put another three trucks on plus a new truck coming. I don’t suffer fools and false promises lightly. I have found EROAD to be no nonsense and does what it claims to.”
R J Lincoln has implemented a package from TR Telematics which solves their Eruc and GPS Tracking requirements:
“ERUC saved us thousands with the savings going straight to the bottom line. Sure it’s the big things, like off-road reclaims and saving a day a month in labour costs to administer RUCs, but it’s also the little things that add up. Like the time and cost of regular phone calls to drivers and replacing broken mechanical hubos. Plus with complex compliance issues now simplified, staff can do better things with their time. Like work that is actually productive for the business.”
“We installed the Elocate device to support compliance for the Gisborne District Council and in addition we receive a great range of value-added services from EROAD. Having the ability to log on and track which parts of the city have been treated and the exact time and date is a great audit tool for me as I am based over 200km away.”
A recent winner of the 2010 EECA Greenstone Energy Transport Award, Ruakuri Contracting has applied the same forward thinking and implemented EROAD…
“With EROAD I better manage my business – I have less cash sitting on the windscreen; with my phone (smartphone) I update myself on daily activity and manage RUC purchases, from where ever I am in the country; I provide my clients with accurate delivery reporting; I get full and accurate off-road claims; it gives me accurate distance measurement to manage my costs. EROAD is a fantastic technology, helping me improve productivity and reduce costs in my business.”
“I initially didn’t want to endorse EROAD as it will also save my competitors money! The EROAD system works for my company on several levels, It takes the responsibility of keeping RUC up to date away from my drivers; it allows us to know (in real time) exactly where our trucks are and what their RUC status is; it completely frees my General Manager to concentrate on growing the business and best of all it delivers very real offroad refunds, which delivers cash back to the business. All of this is delivered via a robust, secure and reliable website that the company can access anywhere, anytime.”
“We are totally chuffed with the EROAD system. The reliability of the electronic hubos means that we have one less problem to worry about. Features such as tracking, AutoRUC and off road claims are brilliant and more than offset the costs – which in themselves are not prohibitive, even for a new business such as ours. If we have the opportunity to put on another truck, installing EROAD will be an absolute priority!”
Sims Pacific Metals are New Zealand’s largest scrap metal recycling company and they have embraced EROAD.
“We are currently running EROAD in all of our vehicles in the AKL metro and Hamilton regions with plans to roll out other centres. The returns we are receiving via off road RUCOR recoveries have been surprising and covers the running cost of the units per month. All the additional benefits are cream on top. The AutoRUC function means less admin drain while ensuring total compliance. The drivers love it as they no longer have to deal with RUC and manual HUBO issues each day and can concentrate on their core roles. This should have been done years ago!”
The Sinclairs are a dedicated team that operate out of Winton in rural Southland. During August last year, they decided to try EROAD in a couple of trucks and a trailer to see if the local EROAD Dealer was telling them the truth about the savings that EROAD could bring to their business…
…three months later it was fitted to all their road trucks. Looking at the savings it was a no brainer! Why wouldn’t you have it in this competitive market?
“For me it’s the ease of managing RUC, with the ability to track my vehicles all in one convenient package. Buying our RUC automatically in 1000km increments and the off-road claiming ability… it means EROAD works for us.”
“We have seven service vehicles and our transporter all on EROAD. I find the track & trace very handy. In our line of work it means we can pick the closest vehicle to the next job that may come in. All our vehicles are on AutoRUC so no running out of RUC and no time is wasted having to purchase. We can also buy less RUC at one time. Claiming off-road travel is also made easy. I find that it is money well spent.”
“Lots of people can do GPS tracking in a truck but only these guys can manage the trailer, and definitely no one else can deliver electronic RUC and distance measurement. I put Tubos on my trailer fleet because they are the only company that can track my off-roads, ensure I am compliant and they have AutoRUC for trailers. Plus EROAD’s system is so easy to manage… just set and forget.”
“I have recently installed the EROAD system and it’s brilliant – just brilliant! I never run out of RUC and I don’t have a pile of dollars tied up in RUC on the windscreen. I use the system to buy my RUC for trailers and all my light vehicles as well, and I can’t get over how easy the off-road claim system is.”

“We run a wide range of heavy trucks throughout the North island and have become a firm convert to the EROAD system for both vehicle tracking and Eruc savings. The EROAD AutoRUC system is awesome. It is as close to pay-as-you-go RUC as you can get! We wouldn’t be without it.”
